The artifacts that appear in Tablaeu 48 Bodmer depicted
in several different watercolours. It can be presumed
that Maximilian collected most or all of the items depicted
at different locations during their expedition. But
only a few are known from present-day museum collections.
Handcoloured aquatint and etching by Jean-Eugène
Duchasse (1817- ?) after several watercolours by Karl
Bodmer, from Prince Maximilian's “Travels in the Interior
of North America, 1832-1834”.
First state (Ruud 2004, p 236) for a German or French
edition, printed by Bougeard, Paris, 1837-43, on large
wove paper (papier vélin), published by Jakob Hölscher,
Koblenz, 1837-42 or by Arthus Bertrand, Paris, 1840-43.
Plate mark: 40 x 54 cm, paper size: 44 x 61 cm (printed
on large paper). With blind stamp: C. BODMER.
Larger tear (c15 cm) at lower left part, neatly restored,
reaching through the lower left side of the image. Otherwise
very good condition.
