Bodmer and Maximilian explored the banks of the Tobyhanna Creek and Bodmer sketched views of the covered bridge crossing it. To get these views, according Maximilian's journal, Bodmer waded several times across the stream until he found “a favourable spot for the view”.

Second state (Ruud 2004, p 248) for a German or French edition, printed by Bougeard, Paris, 1837-43, on large wove paper (papier vélin), published by Jakob Hölscher, Koblenz, 1837-42 or by Arthus Bertrand, Paris, 1840-43.
