Indians Encamped on the Banks of the Missouri.“ - Vig.
XI.
The Punkas (or Poncas) lived near Bazil Creek along
the river in eight or nine tipis. Bodmer watched them
from onboard the steamer Yellow Stone as the natives
were collected to board the vessel. Maximilian found
the scene lively, full of curious children and adults
wrapped in furs or blankets. Bodmer made a watercolour
sketch of the scene.
