The Assiniboins are a Siouan Native American / First
Nations people originally from the Northern Great Plains
of the United States and Canada, especially known as
buffalo hunters. Stone monuments like this one were
erected to attract the buffalo herds. Bodmer painted
this magic pile near Fort Union in summer 1833.
