On the afternoon of May 3rd, 1833 the steamboat Yellow
Stone stopped for about three hours at Bellvue. Situated
near present-day Omaha, Nebraska, the Bellvue Agency
was according to Maximilian situated on a hilltop, the
churchyard entirely on the summit.
Aquatint and etching by Lucas Weber (1811-1860) and
Charles Beyer (1792-?) after a watercolour by Karl Bodmer
(Joslyn's collection KBA 160), from Prince Maximilian's
“Travels in the Interior of North America, 1832-1834”.
First state (Ruud 2004, p 317) for a German or French
edition, printed by Bougeard, Paris, 1837-43, on wove
paper (papier vélin), published by Jakob Hölscher, Koblenz,
1837-42 or by Arthus Bertrand, Paris, 1840-43.
Plate mark: 25,5 x 35 cm, paper size: 31 x 44,5 cm.
