Large Folding Fan

Decorative painting with opaque colours on natural-coloured silk.

Front side: Delicately painted forget-me-not flowers.
Back side: The name Paz, decorated with small flowers.

Inscribed: Eulalia (on the front side), Paz (on the back side).

Date: Spain about 1900.
Size: Hight 36 cm.

Folding fan made of 17 ivory sticks, including the coversticks.
Upper part covered with natural-coloured silk on both sides. In a case.

Silk somewhat spotted along the sticks. Case with some traces of use.

Provenance: Princess Pilar of Bavaria (1891-1987) and her mother Maria de la Paz, Infanta of Spain (1862−1946), second daughter of Queen Isabel II (1830–1904) and elder sister of Marํa Eulalia of Spain (1864-1958). Very probably a present from Maria Eulalia to her sister Maria de la Paz. Maybe also painted by Maria Eulalia.
