"Statt Mospurg"

Copper engraving by Michael Wening, printed from 2 plates, Munich 1701, 25,5 x 70 cm.

€ 695,-

General view of Moosburg, seen over the Isar. With explantions of the most important buildings at the upper left side, a title cartouche in the middle and the coat of arms at the right side.

Very nice, strong impression, first edition before numbers. Some printer's creases, otherwise very good condition.

Michael Wening (1645 Nuremberg - Munich 1718, copper engraver) became an official copper engraver at court of the elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria in 1669. His most important work, a comprehensive and detailed description of the entire electorate, was published from 1701. Four volumes with about 750 plates contain the views of (nearly) all towns, villages, castles and monasteries of Bavaria.
