Map of the World on an oval projection, surrounded by clouds and 12 windheads, first made for the 1550 edition of Münster's Cosmographia.

Fine handcoloured woodcut, edited by Sebastian Münster, Basel 1550, Latin edition, 28 x 37,5 cm.

In a perfect condition.

This map replaced an earlier and similar one. Comparing both maps our one shows the initials of the woodcutter - 'DK', which stands for David Kandel - at the lower left side and all titles of the windheads are now in banners.

Later editions of the Cosmographia - from 1552 - were edited by Münster's son-in-law Heinrich Petri.
