Christopher Hartknoch (1644 Jablonken / Eastern
Prussia - 1687 Thorn; historian and cartographer)
studied philosophy and theology at the university
of Kaliningrad. He worked as a professor at
the Protestant school in Wilna and he was a
director of the Gymnasium in Thorn. He became
well known for his books on the history of Prussia,
especially for his chronicle of Eastern Prussia
"Alt- und Neues Preußen" which was
published with
copper engravings
by Chr. Pietesch,
J. Vogel and
J. Kraus in Frankfurt
on Main 1684.
