Portraits of Gerardus Mercator and Jodocus
Hondius
"Gerardus Mercator ..." and "Iodocus
Hondius ..."
A double-portrait of Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594)
and Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) sitting in front
of Mercator's wall map of Europe. This splendid
depiction of the two famous cartographers, shown
with maps, globes, atlases and measuring instruments,
became part of several editions of the Mercator-Hondius
Atlas from 1613 onwards, after Jodocus Hondius
had passed. (Probably both never had met each
other.)
