Originally coloured copper engravings from "Hortus Romanus", a very rare book of herbs, published by Georgio Bonelli in Rome between 1772 and 1793 in 8 volumes altogether with 800 depictions of plants.

Only a small number of copies was printed - probably not even the planned 300 - and just a handful originally coloured. Most of the depictions were engraved - and a few also coloured - by Maddalena Bouchard after drawings by C. Ubertini.

Very nice copper engravings with broad margins, printed on strong hand-made paper with watermark. Size of each print c 37 x 23 cm, Size of the paper c 55 x 40 cm.
